Exploring the Promise of Free College Application Week and Direct Admissions for Texas Learners

As part of Texas’s commitment to expanding access to credentials of value, two major initiatives— Direct Admissions and the newly established Free College Application Week—are simplifying the path to college for students across the state. With more than 30 institutions participating, Texas now leads one of the largest statewide direct admissions efforts in the country. Building on this momentum, Senate Bill 2231 establishes the state's first Free College Application Week, launching in October for the high school class of 2026. This session will explore how these efforts reduce complexity, share early implementation insights, and provide practical strategies for institutions to support and scale these initiatives in their communities.

Over the past five years, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has advanced major initiatives to improve credit transfer and transparency across institutions. This session will highlight the implementation of Texas Direct, recent policy developments under Senate Bill 3039 (89th Legislature), and data reporting through the Student Transfer Report (CBM00T)—a statewide report that provides public visibility into credit-transfer patterns and outcomes. Participants will learn how these combined efforts are informing decision-making, reducing barriers, and creating clearer pathways for Texas students to reach their goals.

The Power of PSEO Data: Linking Degrees to Workforce Outcomes

The U.S. Census Bureau’s Postsecondary Employment Outcomes (PSEO) dataset provides a powerful means of demonstrating the value of higher education by linking student records with national employment and earnings data. This session will explore how PSEO provides clear, comparable insights into the labor market outcomes of graduates across institutions, programs, and states. Participants will learn how Texas and other states are using PSEO to highlight graduates’ earnings one, five, and 10 years after completion, to identify industries of employment and geographic mobility, and to inform both advising and program design with evidence of economic value. The session will also examine how PSEO data can guide policy decisions on funding, accountability, and workforce alignment. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how PSEO strengthens transparency, empowers student choice, and positions Texas as a national leader in connecting education with workforce success.

The conference package is $395, which includes access to all sessions and networking opportunities.
If you are attending the required trainings for Regents and Trustees on Dec. 8 and the plenary and breakout sessions on Dec. 9–10, select Dec. 8–10 – Required Trainings for Regents and Trustees + Plenary & Breakouts.
If you are only attending the plenary and breakout sessions on Dec. 9–10, select Dec. 9–10 – Plenary & Breakouts only.
Registering more than one person can be done by selecting “Group Registration” and adding the number of attendees with one registration form.
No. All attendees must be registered at once. If you have a unique circumstance, please contact us at events@highered.texas.gov.
Day 1: Required Trainings for Regents and Trustees. Coffee, tea and snacks available.
Day 2: Breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be available from 11:35 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Day 3: Breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m. No lunch service provided.
If you're staying at AT&T, parking is available at the hotel and conference center. If you’re traveling in, we suggest parking at Rowling Hall and entering the building through the Zlotnik Family Elevators.
Attendees joining us for required trainings: Registration opens at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Rowling Hall.
Attendees who do not intend to attend required trainings: Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 9 outside of Zlotnik Ballroom.
If you run into any trouble registering, please contact our team at events@highered.texas.gov. We’ll do our best to respond as quickly as possible. Please do not register more than once, as this may result in duplicate submissions.
No. You may only use an email address once to register.
All individuals in group registration must include their own email address to have a successful registration and access to conference programming and the event mobile app.
This will ensure all attendees receive relevant communications regarding programming, announcements, and conference mobile app access.
No, you cannot. All registrants will receive the same event communications, so you don’t need to worry about missing anything before the conference.

  2. Select “Yes” as registering multiple people for this conference
  3. Add the individual attendee’s information.
  4. Complete registration
Note: An email address can only be accepted once in the system. The system will not allow duplicate entries.
You can attempt to register again. The registration form will prompt you to the payment page or you can choose to “Re-Register” where you will complete the registration form again. This should not result in a duplicate registration.
